O Pegasus : Soft Launch
O, Pegasus! is officially soft launched.
Currently there are about 150 texts, 100 authors/artists, 150 horses, and 100 art works loosely related to about seven books.
Because it’s a soft launch, there are a few known issues in the site and the full feature set I want to include isn’t there.
I know, for example, that the classifications on the books are fairly incorrect. I’ll be dealing with those later this week. The design is pretty utilitarian, but I wanted something quick and easy. I’ve only tested in FF3 and IE7, but it should be ok in other modern browsers. I didn’t use anything too extraordinary in the design. If you’re using IE6, I make no promises—I’m done supporting that browser on my personal sites. If the stats show a sizable number of you are using IE6, I’ll come up with some bare-bones (and I do mean bare-bones) alternate for you, but it won’t be anything more than functional. Upgrade. Seriously. IE6 is an 8-track player in an iPod world.
Please feel free to report any problems you see; there are contact forms on the site. This is a soft launch; I expect there are issues I haven’t encountered yet.
And enjoy!

Incredible. I love it. Ack. I’ll be spending a lot of time there. It’s also quite beautiful, very relaxing and pleasant to knock around in. No issues with Firefox that I found…
Glad you’re liking it!
Much to my shock, the site is only going to need a few very minor adjustments for IE6. I’ll probably go ahead and make them. Seems silly not to.
Please feel free to recommend books. My attention is currently knee-deep in Google Books and Project Gutenberg, but eventually I’m going to want to get some modern authors in there as well. And despite my current fascination with anthologies, I also want to list novels as well. They won’t get full text, but I can at least get summaries in.
Looks great in Safari 4 (beta, I don’t like the final release!)
One thing I think would be cool is if each excerpt had the date of publication listed at the bottom. I love to see just HOW old some of the old texts are. Also, it might be just me, but I always instinctively click the title text at the top to go to the homepage.
I am quite enjoying wasting time there!
Funder, good comments. I’ll deal with the title text/link sometime this week.
The dates are more difficult. When I know the initial publication date, it shows up in the right-hand column. Sometimes the footer also has a date—specific anthology credits and the like. But if all I have is the general anthology date, that doesn’t post anywhere. I don’t love how all this works, either, so it is something I want to streamline a bit more. It’s on the list…

I just checked it out and O Pegasus is wonderful. How do you find the time to do all this research and work. Thanks, I’m sure I’ll find many interesting things to keep me occupied there.
