Big Plans Coming…

11 May 2011 4 Comments

I understand there are people out there who are still shedding out their horses.

It must suck to be you.

Our lovely, springy spring has given way to a very sunny early summer. Long daylight hours, no bad weather—we’re set. Perfect get-back-in-shape weather.

And so we are. Getting back in shape, I mean.

Yesterday, Ro helped me exercise my core muscles by crow hopping a bit. Since I am riding stirrupless or with only one stirrup (yay, broken foot), I did have to sit up and use my seat a little. Just a little, to match her little crow hop. Neither one of us is interested in straining something, so we’re easing into fitness carefully.

To celebrate our return to work, we’re going trial riding on Saturday. Weather should be perfect, not too much heat or humidity—generally, conditions ought to be about perfect for our first outing in ages.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Yes, it does suck.  Nina still has a lot of winter coat.  But I suppose it is just as well.  Yesterday at 80 degrees I felt bad for her, but right now it is 35, raining and trying to snow, high of 40 today.  This is nuts.

I apologize for the shedding comment, but I was trying to harness this blog’s evil power for good.

Lately everything I post has caused the opposite to happen.

Texas is in a severe, severe drought and we had a chance of rain Thurs/Fri… I figured if I posted a sunny-weather-plans thing, it would definitely rain. The shedding comment was just insurance.

And it worked—storms rolled through today and we got a good .5 - 1” of rain around Houston. Not nearly enough to break the drought, but things will get a little greener hopefully. At least for a little bit.

And since it came through on Thurs, everything will be dry by Saturday, so I’m still good to go trail riding. This all works out rather well, if I say so myself.

Well, except for the fact that I’m sure you’d have rather not been reminded about shedding… but as you can see, it was for a good cause. We desperately needed that rain.

Thanks for the rain.  Think you can do it again?  Friday maybe?

Probably not—I think I caught the evil blog unawares and it won’t fall for the same trick twice. I’ll have to see if I can figure something else out.
